Understand and pay the bill
Usage charges multiply consumption by the water and sewer volumetric rates. Fixed water and sewer service charges depend on meter size. A lower-use month does not necessarily eliminate those fixed charges. Use the current rate card and calculator instead of applying a flat price from another city.
Pay through a bank, a standard or equal-billing automatic plan, city counters or drop boxes, or City Dashboard. Dashboard card payments attract a convenience fee. E-billing sends bills and reminders by email; enrolment or cancellation takes effect next billing period. Keep the water account number ready.
Owners tenants and account access
All new accounts must be in the registered owner’s name. Tenants cannot create a new water account or gain access to an owner’s billing record merely by paying it. An owner shares billing information as needed; a tenant can remit payment with the number and amount.
Owners can authorize an agent through the Account Authorization Request. A deceased family member’s account needs complete legal documents before information is released. A company account needs the specified ownership or signing-authority evidence.
Moving sale readings and final balances
Submit the move form for an existing account in your name. For a sale, the lawyer’s notification requests a final meter read and includes seller and forwarding details plus buyer-lawyer contact. The buyer’s lawyer must provide the updated deed after closing so records can transfer. Documents can go to water@niagarafalls.ca.
Automatic plans stop for final billing. Do not wait for another withdrawal. A final credit is refunded; submit direct-deposit details on the move form for EFT, otherwise the city issues a cheque on its monthly cycle. An existing tenant account’s security deposit is applied to its final bill.
Overdue accounts and unusual usage
Outstanding balances have a 1.25% monthly penalty. Owner accounts over 60 days in arrears with more than $200 can transfer to the tax roll with a fee. Existing tenant accounts have separate disconnection provisions, including a $30 collection notice fee after the stated 31-day past-due stage. Contact collections@niagarafalls.ca before assuming more time is available.
A high bill may reflect a leak, extra occupants, pool filling or estimated reads followed by an actual read. Pool filling has no water-bill rebate or discount. For volume conversion, divide litres by 1,000 to obtain cubic metres.
